Graphics card?

I'm looking to buy a graphics card for my pc. My current one is rubbish! First of all, will any graphics card work ok? Or does it need to be a particular configuration to suit my PC? What are the things I need to see if they are compatible with my PC when looking for a graphics card? Secondly, is there any difference between a graphics adapter and graphics card? Thirdly, I've shortlisted these graphic cards/adapters. Which is the one I should go for? I'm looking for one that basically lets me play the latest games at high FPS. Thanks! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Inno3D-GeForce-7600GS-512MB-Graphics/dp/B000M2WL62/ref=sr_1_1/026-0516226-3522044?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1181987817&sr=1-1 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sapphire-Radeon-x1550-512mb-11093-10-20R/dp/B000N0OMDS/ref=sr_1_6/026-0516226-3522044?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1181987817&sr=1-6 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sapphire-Radeon-X1650-512MB-Graphics/dp/B000RF4CDO/ref=sr_1_15/026-0516226-3522044?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1181987817&sr=1-15 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Inno3D-Geforce-8500GT-800MHz-Graphics/dp/B000Q2LRYA/ref=sr_1_16/026-0516226-3522044?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1181987817&sr=1-16 My CPU configuration is: # Intel Pentium 4 517 Processor # 2.93GHz, 533MHz FSB # 1024MB DDR RAM # 80GB Hard Disk Drive # Multi-Format Dual Layer DVD RW Drive # 256MB ATI Express X200 Graphics # 2 USB Connections # 2 PCI Slots # Microsoft Works 8.0 # Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition So has it got the PCI thing?

  1. ok here is what you need to know. you have to find out if your computer has a pci express slot in it or a pci or an agp 4x or 8x slot in it you have to know those things if it is a name brand computer like dell it is highly unlikely that there will be a pci-e slot in it unless you bought it very recently if you do have a pci-e slot in it you are good to go on all of those cards exept the third one if you have a agp 8x slot the 3rd videocard you can use but you just need to make sure you know what your doing before you buy and install this new stuff or you can be very dissapointed
  2. one: graphics adapter is the same as graphics card two: is ur motherboard Pci express like those graphics cards u mentiond, or agp which u need to buy a different type of graphics card then mentioned...(can buy same model with differenc slot) This can be usually found out by ur computer manufacturer book or motherboard book, or typing ur comp model (if store bought) into google, or your mobo model into google :D and i would go for the 7600GS personally
