How big of a difference will the x3000 Graphics make?
Santa Rosa is coming out soon. It's going to have an upgraded version of integrated graphics, x3000. I know it won't compare to discrete graphics, but how much better is it than current integrated graphics? Will I be able to run graphics intensive programs using it? I know I won't get super performance, but I have a desktop for that. I basically want to know if x3000 will run them decently. If not, I'll need to get a discrete graphics card, which is hard to do with an ultraportable.

- oh man X3000 graphic is going to be crazy! X3000 is a Next Generation Graphic released by intel. here is the Spec and Info! GMA X3000 graphics core will support DirectX 9c, DirectX 10 and OpenGL 1.5 features. The supported features include: Hardware vertex shader model 3.0 Hardware pixel shader model 3.0 32-bit and 16-bit full precision floating point operations Up to 8 multiple render targets Occlusion Query 128-bit floating point texture formats Bilinear, trilinear and anisotropic mipmap filtering Shadow maps and double sided stencils Software vertex shader model 2.0/3.0 Hardware pixel shader model 2.0 32-bit and 16-bit fixed point operations Up to 8 multiple render targets Occlusion query 128-bit floating point texture formats Bilinear, trilinear and anisotropic mipmap filtering Shadow maps and double sided stencils Its gonna be the same like 8800GTX/GTS,and ATI R600!
- The specs for the x3000 are pretty good for integrated. As for a major performance difference between integrated from a few years ago, no. Dedicated graphics cards with seperate video memory and video processors are the best, and they always will be.
