What exactly can overclocking a graphics card do apart from ruin it?
I 'v heard that overclocking graphics cards can shorten its life span. By how much will it do this? I have a new XFX 8800GT, and it runs Collin Macrae Dirt at around 30fps on medium settings. Will overclocking make it increase the fps at higher graphics settings?

- Not much it will only give you about ten extra frames per second. I am guessing your processor is bottlenecking the video card. If not just lower the resolution and increase the detail hope this helps.
- depending on what over-clocking software you use, it can fry your graphics card extremely quickly. It is not worth overclocking to get an extra 5 frames or so. If overclocking does fry your graphics card, in many cases will void your warranty, so you will have to buy a whole new card.
