How can I compare my graphics card to others?

When I want to buy games it says you have to have a certain graphics card or better. How do I know which ones are better than mine. I have a ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT.

  1. Usually they name a series of graphics cards as a Standard to compare yours to. So in your case. You graphics card is pretty top end right now. So it would compare to the new graphics cards. You should be able to play any games.
  2. Well, when they say you need an HD 2600 or better or something like that, anything with the number 2600 or over will do. They usually offer a video card from ATi and nVidia. Say the nVidia card is a GeForce 7800GT, you need anything higher than a 7800. The only problem is the letters after it. On nVidia cards, it goes, GS, GT, GTS, GTX and Ultra. So, an 8800GTX is better than a 9800GS. But you kinda just have to know, which card is better in that situation. And, in nVidia cards, if the 2nd number is 6 or 8, it's made for gaming. For example, the 9600GT, it has an 8, which is obviously better than the 9500GT (they don't make a 9500GTX). But, the GeForce 8800GT is actually better than the GeForce 9600GT, even though the 9600 is in a newer series. I know, it can be confusing.
  3. Here's an awesome link from a website called can you run it. It installs a small app that checks your system and tells you if you can run a game before you buy it: http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest
